Lot Essay

Buttered Toast was initially created as part of Liza Lou's seminal piece The Kitchen, 1991-1995, now part of the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Her first large scale installation, it is a complete recreation of a kitchen rendered entirely in small glass beads.
