Lot Essay

The painting was gifted to Feng Fangmin (born 1919), former editor-in-chief of the Xin Sheng Daily and a representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of China. Native of Jiangzi, he studied Economics at Fudan University, and was involved in the promotion of the arts and culture in Taiwan having migrated there in 1949. As a member and director of the Taiwan Arts and Culture Association, as well as the Taiwan Youth Writing Asociation, he encouraged creativity and writing among young people, and produced many publications, overseeing its production and occasionally contributing articles. His daughter was Zhang Daqian's secretary.
