ZHAO SHAO'ANG (1905-1998)
LOTS 2161-2162 PROPERTY OF MR. ZHOU CIDA Mr. Zhou Cida, a native from Guangzhou, later immigrated to Macau due to social and political instability, running a printing business. Because of his connections with people in the art circle, Zhou by chance met painters from the Lingnan School: Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng, Zhao Shao'ang, who later gifted Zhou their paintings as a sign of their friendship. Boat Under Moonlight was dedicated to Zhou by Gao Jianfu in the spring of 1951. It exemplifies the traditional Lingnan landscape painting style, while the meticulously painted flower-and-bird composition. Bird and Bamboo was gifted to Zhou in 1933.
