Lot Essay

'There is a strong continuity between Fabre's visual world and that of the old masters: an equivalent engagement with materials, a similar goal on a spiritual level, which can only be discovered when one passes beyond materials.' (B. de Baere and P. Huvenne, 'Of Then and Soon', in Jan Fabre/Homo Faber, Ghent 2006, p. 8).
