Lot Essay

The print depicts the actress Emilienne d'Alençon and Lautrec's cousin Gabriel Tapié de Céleyran at the Cabaret des Décadent, one of Lautrec's favourite venues renowned for performances by some of the leading cabaret artists of the day, including Jane Avril, May Milton and May Belfort.
