Lot Essay

This set of leaf brooches was probably mounted originally as a tiara or a necklace. It is very much in the same spirit as the famous Parure de feuilles de groseillier, ordered by the Empress Eugenie to French jeweller Bapst in 1855 and composed of a garland necklace, a tour de corsage and a devant de corsage.

It is also very similar to the leaf brooches worn on a choker by Maria Cristina Queen of Spain on one of her official portrait, illustrated page 292 in Las joyas de las reinas de Espana, F. Rayon and J. L. Sampedro, Planeta, Barcelona.
