Lot Essay

During the 1940s and early 1950s Dufy painted a series of orchestral concerts and hommages to his favourite composers Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Debussy. The tribute to the composer consisted of a musical instrument, usually a violin or piano, set out on a table, surmounted by a piece of sheet music.

This work is sold with a photo-certificate from Fanny Guillon-Laffaille. It will be included in the forthcoming supplement to the Catalogue Raisonné des Aquarelles, Gouaches et Pastels de Raoul Dufy currently in preparation.
