The present lot is preliminary study for two oil versions of Hemelse en Aardse liefde (no. KM 103.052, Kröller-Müler Museum, Otterlo) and (no. A 21540, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam).

To be included in the catalogue raisonné on the artist's work, currently being prepared by the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD) in The Hague.
