Lot Essay

According to Brigitte Baer approximately twelve impressions were printed prior to steel-facing, of which she knew of three: in the Musée Picasso, Paris (unsigned); the National Gallery of Art, Washington (signed); and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (signed). We are aware of only one impression offered at auction in the last forty years (sold at Kornfeld, Berne, on 17 June 1987, lot 139, for CHF 50,000).
