Lot Essay

The coats-of-arms are those of Dr. Willem Theodorus Wentholt (1685-1746), Steward of the Estate of Het Loo and mayor of Doetinchem, and his wife, Theodora Sibylla van Dam (1689-?), who married in 1714. This wine-cooler was possibly made on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary; the suggestion has been made that it was given to the couple by Stadhouder Willem IV (1711-1751).
