A PAIR OF GERMAN SILVER-GILT SPICE-BOXES AND A SET OF SIX GEORGE III SILVER CONDIMENT SPOONS
THE SPICE BOXES APPARENTLY UNMARKED, CIRCA 1780, THE DIVIDERS AUGSBURG, 1781-1783, STAMPED HOFFMAN, PERHAPS FOR CARL CONRAD HOFFMANN OF HANOVER AS RETAILER, THE SPOONS WITH MARK OF WILLIAM ELEY AND WILLIAM FEARN, LONDON, 1817, 1818 AND 1819
Each oval, the hinged cover with foliage husk border, engraved with initials 'CWF' below an elector's crown, the inside with detachable divider, the spoons each Fiddle, Thread and Shell pattern, engraved with an initial below a Royal Princess' coronet, further engraved 'EA' over 'F', marked on divider, the spoons each marked on handle
the spice boxes 3½ in. (89 cm.) long
15 oz. 10 dwt. (482 gr.)
The initials on the spice-boxes are those of Carl Wilhelm Ferdinand Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg and in Wolfenbüttel (1735-1806)
The initial on the spoons is that of Princess Sophia of Great Britain and Ireland (1777-1848), fifth daughter of King George III (1760-1820). (8)
