Rectangular with rounded corners, the cover centring interlaced Cyrillic initials 'ASh' in a shaped reserve, cloisonné enamelled in shades of blue, white and translucent red with stylised scrolling foliage, the sides enamelled in similar palette with scrolling shaped reserves with flower heads at intervals, gilt interior, the inside cover inscribed in Russian 'To Alexander Spiridovich Shiryaev From his colleagues at the St Petersburg Address Office (Adresnaya Ekspeditsiya) on his jubilee 1836-L/2 January-1886', marked inside cover and base
