The Yi Jingqiu Collection
Zhang Daqian returned to Taiwan in 1971, when Mr. Yi Jingqiu was Chairman of the Taipei Kuomintang Party. Along with Mr. Qin Xiaoyi, they went house hunting and finally settled in Moye Jingse, now converted as the Zhang Daqian Memorial Museum.
Zhang and Yi Jingqiu got along well as Yi's hometown was in Ziliujing in Sichuan, very close to Zhang's hometown of Neijiang. Zhang's family operated a saltworks business in Yi's hometown, and Yi was also a student during Zhang's tenure as professor at the Chongqing Central University. One of their shared interests was a passion for culinary arts. Zhang had an enormous appetite for good food and loved to cook. Zhang's studio Da Fengtang was famous for serving delicious Chinese dishes, also appreciated by Yi, while both enjoyed throwing elegant dinner parties.
Yi is an internationally recognized culinary connoisseur, and was the main judge for the Hong Kong Food Festival Culinary Awards hosted by the Hong Kong Tourist Association in 1989 and 1991.
