Lot Essay

Working from a photograph, Dr. Ingvar Bergström suggested that the present picture was painted by a north Italian artist, and noted its similarity to a pair of panels by Cristoforo Munari (1667-1720) in the Pinacoteca Civica, Ascoli Piceno (private communication, 23 May 1979) (see A. Ghidiglia Quintavalle, Cristoforo Munari e la natura morta emiliana, Parma, 1964, figs. 38, 39).
