Nude and Dunes, 1939

In the summer of 1939 Edward Weston returned to the dunes at Oceano with his model Maudelle. The poses in this series, while reminiscent of Charis', taken three years earlier, now are more alert and less sensual. Weston also positioned himself farther away as if just photographing the landscape.
