Lot Essay

With Rolex 18K gold bracelet and deployant clasp.

The present watch of the early 1970s seduces by virtue of its striking blue dial and bezel, combined with its sharp edges on the bezel and the equally crisp milling on the back, it is a truly rare find in this condition. Being in yellow gold, the watch is a ref. 1680/8. Dial and bezel of this reference came in two colours, blue or black.

Reference 1680/8 in the combination of blue dial and bezel is illustrated in Rolex Submariner Story by Franca & Guido Mondani and Lele Ravagnani, pp. 104-105 and p. 107, as well as in 100 Years of Rolex likewise by F. & G. Mondani, p. 133.
