German. A Gilt-Metal Striking Crucifix Clock
Unsigned, Mid 16th Century
Going train with foliate engraved gilt barrel and verge escapement, striking train on a single bell housed in the base, the case lower portion tiered with floral and geometric motives in relief, the cross raised on a circular pedestal with open arches to allow sound, two figures at the base depicting the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist a skull and cross bones in between, the Christ figure secured by three nails beneath a scroll inscription INRI, the top with small gilt globe with revolving silver Roman chapter ring, all on top of a moulded base
