Lot Essay

In 1918-1919 Van Doesburg designed the stained glass windows above the doors of the Rotterdam Spangen housing project - blocks I and V designed by the architect J.J.P. Oud (1890-1963).

Van Doesburg used the figurative work on paper The Blue-gate Bridge with Horse and Cart as the basis for this abstract stained-glass composition.
