Consigned by a direct descendant of Constantine I of Greece, the royal provenance adds a substantial layer of historical importance to the present timepiece in extremely good condition.

The dial of this watch features the notation Bte. S. G. D. G., which stands for "Breveté Sans Garantie du Gouvernement", a French legal remark that signifies the government does not guarantee the functioning of the patented device. Such legal notations (similar examples are "patented" and "patent pending") are sometimes found on movements, dials or cases of vintage pieces.

Constatine I of Greece
King Constantine I was born in 1868 in Athens, the first Greek-born royal, amidst great celebrations and an overflow of joy among the Greek people. His early education was entrusted to the most brilliant academic professors of the time, and spanned from history, to physics, to business and politics. He entered the military academy in 1882 and he was appointed major general in 1890. He accessed the throne in 1913, after the murder of his father by anarchists, and ruled until 1922, when he abdicated and the throne passed to his son George II. He was married to Princess Sophia of Prussia, from whom he had 6 children.
