Lot Essay

The recipient of this painting is Wang Jidan, a native of Xuzhou, who specialized in bird & flower paintings as well as graphic art. He apprenticed under Xiao Longshi and Wan Qinfang, and was a student of Li Keran in 1931, later learning wood carving from Wang Zhaomin. He was also the editor of a war-time journal and was a member of several arts committee, including the China Association of Fine Artists and the Chinese Graphic Arts Association.
