In the old Russian style, the oval hemispherical body engraved with lions, fish, scrollwork and a flowerhead, held in a strapwork mount on four ball feet, the sides with two roundels engraved with rampant lions, the rim mount nielloed with the Russian inscription 'By Grace of God Tsar and Great Prince Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Lord of all Rus' and Tsar of Kazan' and Astrakhan and surrounding Land Lords', with flattened handle engraved and nielloed with pan-Slavic foliate scrolls and snakes on a red plique-à-jour ground, the support in the form of a creature, marked under handle
