Lot Essay

Simon Wyard is a British sculptor. Born the son of two artists, he first obtained a degree in Fine Art at the Maidstone College of Art, before continuing his studies at Goldsmiths College, London. It was here where he began to study ceramics as well as concentrating on figurative sculpture. Wyard begins by evoking his embryonic ideas in small maquettes working them in clay to worked in clay to produce the striking works for which he is known, often evoking a themes of harmony and tranquility. More recently he has spent some time living and exhibiting in France, and now resides in Devon where he continues to develop his unique oeuvre.
