Gilt-finished cylinder movement, chain fusée, finely pierced and engraved foliage decorated balance cock, diamond endstone, chased and engraved foliage decorated foot, quarter repeating on two hammers onto a bell, gilt dust cover, white enamel dial, Roman numerals, outer Arabic five minute divisions, inner case with finely pierced and engraved scroll and foliage decorated band, silent repeat push-piece underneath the bezel, repeating through the pendant, outer case with blue and white champlevé enamel floral and foliage decoration, inner case numbered 973 stamped with casemaker's initials IW and London date letter for 1741, movement and dust cap signed Graham's succr. Tho. Colley, outer case stamped with casemaker's initials DA

Lot Essay

Thomas Colley (d. 1771) was apprenticed by the renowned watchmaker Geo. Graham. After Graham's death in 1751 he went into partnership with Samuel Barcley, the workshop manager, signing their watches and clocks "Barcley and Colley Graham's Successors". When Barcley died in 1753 he continued working alone.
