Lot Essay

The Datograph Perpetual is A. Lange & Söhne's first wristwatch combining a chronograph and a perpetual calendar. It can stop times of up to 30 minutes with an accuracy of one-fifth of a second. The precise jumping minute counter provides unmistakable readings. With a single press of a button, the flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset and restarted instantaneously during an ongoing time measurement.
The perpetual calendar displays include the day of the week, the month, leap years, a day/night indication, the moon phase and the large date or rather perpetual large date: it remains accurate until the year 2100 when it has to be manually advanced by one day. The first correction of the highly precise moon phase display, also by just one day, will be necessary in 122 years. All displays of the perpetual calendar can be individually adjusted with the calendar correcting pieces in the case band or collectively advanced by depressing the push-button in the band. To prevent this from happening inadvertently, the watch is fitted with an interlock device allowing the collective switching of the displays only while the crown is pulled out.

The Datograph Perpetual is available exclusively in platinum, either with a leather strap or with a platinum bracelet.
