This splendid set of Venetian views brings together the most recognizable, monumental icons at the heart of the city with the lesser-known, quietly picturesque places on the Lagoon. Richter was born in Stockholm but settled in 1697 in Venice, were he remained until he died, straddling the worlds of Luca Carlevarijs -- the founder of the Venetian veduta tradition, in whose studio he worked -- and Canaletto, its most renowned exponent. The attribution to Richter has been confirmed by Dario Succi.
