La pleine attribution de ce pastel à Liotard n'a été confirmée que très récemment par Marcel Rothlisberger lors de la publication du catalogue raisonné en 2008 (et plus récemment par Neil Jeffares, Dictionary of Pastellists before 1800, version en ligne). Il confirme également que l'ancienne identification des modèles, le Comte et la Comtesse de Kaunitz n'est pas plausible.
Dans ce délicat portrait de femme richement habillée, le détail du col en fourrure et de la dentelle blanche que l'on aperçoit sous son manteau sont comparables à ceux de l'impératrice Marie-Thérèse d'Autriche (Roethlisberger, Loche, op.cit., I., p. 304, no. 107).
