Lot Essay

Aglio made this drawing in 1805, the year he left Italy for London. A drawing by Aglio of the Falls at Tivoli, also executed in bodycolour and dated 1804, is in The British Museum, London (inv. 1963,0420.6; E. Croft-Murray, Decorative Painting in England: 1537-1837, Feltham, 1970, II, p. 159).
