This view of the Bay of Naples shows the fortress of Castel Sant' Elmo on the top of the hill, the Castel dell'Ovo to the far right and Mount Vesuvius in the background. A larger and very similar view of the bay, signed and dated 'Xav.s Gatta P. 1783' and one of a pair, was sold at Christie's, New York, 29 January 2015, lot 119.
