Lot Essay

In Zone, Michael Raedecker employed thick layers of acrylic and thread, using the traditionally decorative material to create images that are at once illusionistic representations and curious material accretions. Renowned for his original approach to the medium of painting in this regard, Raedecker was nominated for the Turner price in 2000 and exhibited Zone at Tate Britain on the occasion.
