Gijs BakkerDans la patrie de Mondrian, à la fin des années 60, l’abstraction s’installe dans le bijou, déclinant formes géométriques et compositions asymétriques, éliminant toute emprise décorative. Ce mouvement n’est pas que formel car le bijou entend se libérer de ses codes traditionnels: refus de la préciosité des matériaux, de la pièce unique; rejet de tout signe visible d’artisanat, de tout vestige du processus créatif. La valeur du bijou est prônée dans sa modernité. Gijs Bakker (né en 1942), célèbre designer (1), fait figure de proue et son travail est dorénavant historique. S’inscrivant dans une logique purement artistique, ses bijoux sont d’ailleurs nommés objets à porter. Avec ce bracelet, la réussite est liée à cette distanciation, centrée sur la forme, un sens du modelé, évacuant toute trace d’outil, de faire, comme si la matière était seule vivante.In the homeland of Mondrian at the end of the 1960s, abstraction came to jewellery in the form of geometric shapes and asymmetrical compositions to the exclusion of any decorative pretensions. This movement was not purely formal, since it sought to free itself from its traditional codes: a repudiation of materials as precious, of unique pieces, of any visible sign of craftsmanship and of any vestige of the creative process. The value of the piece was held to be intrinsic to its modernity. Celebrated designer Gijs Bakker (b. 1942) was its figurehead and his work is now historic in its own right. Derived from a purely artistic logic, his jewellery pieces are now referred to as wearable objects. The success of this bracelet relates to this detachment with its focus on form, modelling and the conscious removal of any trace of the tools used, as if the material had a life of its own. 1.
