Lot Essay

Ned L. Pines, a former owner of this work, was a passionate art collector for over fifty years. A collection that began with prints in the late 1920s, and would grow to include works on paper, oils and sculpture by many of the leading artists of the 20th Century. In the 1960s, encouraged by his wife Maxine, he bought works by artists including Joan Miró, Max Bill, Sam Francis, Willem de Kooning, Fernando Botero, Fernand Leger, Henry Moore, Alexander Calder and Eduardo Chillida.
