The present watch is a well-preserved example of a “Big Red” Daytona reference 6263, the name derived from the bright red "Daytona" designation, a most popular model in today's market. Of private provenance it is furthermore distinguished by its very good overall condition and the presence of the original Guarantee.
Reference 6263 was introduced into the market in the early 1970s and was available in stainless steel, 14K and 18K gold. The model was fitted with the "Oyster" or "screw down" chronograph buttons and a bezel with black plastic insert, the tachymetre scale printed in white. The “Daytona” designation is found on examples from the mid-1970s onwards.
Different versions of the model are described and illustrated in: Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 328 - 335.
