Lot Essay

For collectors of rare early Rolex chronographs, the present watch is an exciting discovery due to the rarity of the reference, scarcity to the market. and for its exceptional and original unpolished condition. The reference 4537 is one of the first chronographs from Rolex with a three-register movement in a case with more water-resistant pump pushers and a screw-down case back, earning the watch the designation of “Oyster” on the dial.

Seeing this watch in person gives the Rolex connoisseur a new understanding of the reference in terms of originality. The condition and beauty of this rare and important Rolex is an ultimate trophy of Rolex’s early history of chronographs.
