Lot Essay

"This tiny Léger gouache is a study for a larger painting which was done for my brother Nelson. The study belonged to Wallace K. Harrison and was given to us one year at Christmas. Harrison was a very good friend of Léger's and had a number of his paintings, many of which had been given to him by the artist." —David Rockefeller
