etching, 1634, on laid paper, with a small watermark fragment, a very fine impression of New Hollstein’s first state (of two), even the finest lines printing very clearly and with good contrasts, with narrow margins, generally in very good condition

Lot Essay

The present impression compares favourably to the equally fine Cracherode impression in the British Museum. The dark areas of the Cracherode impression have however been strengthened with grey wash, especially in the hair and eyes.
