Le visage de la Vierge présente de nombreuses similitudes avec celui du tableau d'autel Madone à l'Enfant avec Saints conservé dans l'église romaine de Saint Gregorio al Celio. Il est intéressant de noter la particularité de ce dessin : la figure de sainte Anne est dessinée sur une autre feuille jointe, ce qui permet à Roncalli de travailler sur la composition et l'espace entre les personnages selon ses besoins.
