The popularity of the red ground 'in and out' palmette design was enormous both at the time of manufacture and at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries when European Noble families, such as the Rothchild's, became avid collectors.
This rug retains a wide variety of original colours and the juxtaposition of the sea-green border and the rust-red palmettes is particularly harmonious.
