Lot Essay

Born in 1992 in New York, Kelly Wang was introduced to Chinese paintings at a young age by her family and was under the tutelage of Chen Ruikang, a student of Pu Ru. An intercultural artist, Wang traverses boundaries established by time and space; her style is a fusion of diverse mediums and eclectic elements. By working with traditional and post-industrial materials, Wang pays homage to her upbringing and artistic training, her subliminal and liberal application of ink and pigment reflecting the flowing spirit of Chinese paintings. With vibrant colours diffused across the paper, Bloom II appears to be a dynamic snapshot of blazing fireworks, capturing the spontaneous energy of ink and expressive freedom. Wang’s works are in the collection of Princeton University and are currently exhibited at the Princeton University Art Museum.
