Consigned by an Important European Collector the present ref. 5004G has never been offered in public before. It is furthermore preserved in very good overall condition and, to the best of our knowledge, one of only 20 examples of the model in white gold to have appeared in public to date.
Reference 5004
Reference 5004, a modern classic, was launched in 1994 with a production of approximately 12 pieces per year. Now discontinued, the model has increased in desirability due to its subtle design and pedigree. Deriving its features from the reference 3970, which descends from the legendary and iconic reference 2499, ref. 5004 enters the Patek Philippe family of Grand Complications through its added and highly complex split seconds function.
It was replaced with two other split seconds chronograph models, both in platinum cases: the cushion-shaped reference 5951 released in 2010 with in-house calibre CHR 27-525 PS Q and reference 5204, released in March 2012 at the Basel Fair with in-house calibre CHR 29-535 PS Q.
Reference 5004 is illustrated in: Patek Philippe Wristwatches, Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 312.
