LOUIS XIII
In 1841, Paul-Emile Rémy Martin assumed control of the family company and the name of the top release was chosen as a tribute to King Louis XIII of France, the reigning monarch when the Rémy Martin family settled in the Cognac region. Louis XIII was the first monarch to recognize Cognac as a category in its own right. Breaking from the tradition of selling in barrel, Paul-Emile began bottling his Cognacs produced in the Grande Champagne region, selling a blend of his best 100% Grande Champagne cognacs in an ornate Baccarat decanter.
