Lot Essay

According to the inscription, this series of Asahina surimono started in 1798 (commissioned by Sakuragawa Bihinari [1762-1833?] to Utagawa Toyohiro [1774-1830]), and the present lot is commissioned in 1847 by Sakuragawa II to Utagawa II, here referring to Toyohiro's student Hiroshige.
