The Patek Philippe Nautilus is perhaps the most desired model of all the company’s production wristwatches, indeed it is one of the ultimate luxury status symbols in the world. Every Nautilus wristwatch of every reference is incredibly prized, however, even in the rarefied realm of the Nautilus family there are the superstars, ultra-special precious metal and gem-set pieces that were never intended for the public gaze and never included in any catalogue. Offered privately and only by invitation to a handful of Patek Philippe’s most exalted and loyal clientele, these Nautilus models are beyond desirable, inhabiting the stratosphere of luxury watchmaking.
Christie’s is therefore honoured and delighted to be able to present this fresh to the market full set Platinum Nautilus reference 5711/111P-001. The bezel is set with 32 superbly matched baguette sapphire weighing a total of 4 carats on the bezel and with 12 further baguette sapphire as hour indexes on the dial. Being platinum, it is also set with a single tiny diamond between the lugs at 6 o’clock as is Patek Philippe’s tradition. The overall combination of platinum case and bracelet coupled with a black dial and sapphire is simply breathtaking.
The present watch is one of the most recent developments of the special production ‘invitation only’ platinum and gem-set Nautilus. Patek Philippe very discreetly began producing platinum cased reference 5711s in 2012. The specific reference 5711-1P was given to this model and it sported the same dial as the stainless steel version. Then in the mid-2010’s, an exceedingly small series of models were made in platinum with baguette gem-set bezels and white dials. It is thought that no more than half a dozen of each have been made of these references: 5711-113P for emeralds; 5711-112P for rubies; 5711-111P for sapphires and 5711-110P for diamonds.
The most recent versions of these references, including the present watch, are fitted with black dials, the reference was updated and given the suffix ‘-001’.
Seen on the wrists of selected A-list celebrities and sportsmen, the platinum baguette diamond bezel Nautilus is undoubtedly one of the greatest standout statement watches that money can buy.
