Lot Essay

Lewis comments on this form, '...This piece studies the focus, the tension of the stalking cat. The head lowers, the muscles tense and there is a purposefulness to the walk. The whole animal is taut, like a bow string, focused on the hunt. The textures of my sculptures are not about cat fur, but the textures of the landscape. They are really about the texture of grass, wood, rock: the textures of Africa.' A single cast was sold Christie's, South Kensington, 11 June 2007, lot 21 ($141,552).
