In 1978 Smart had settled with Ermes De Zan at Posticcia Nuova, Tuscany where the present work was painted. North Sydney recalls Copper Park I, 1962 (Private collection) and The Listener, 1965 (Ballarat Art Gallery) -- the lone male figure reclining on a grassy slope, an urban landscape rising behind him.
