In 1968 it was television programs such as La Piste aux étoiles or Catch à Quatre featuring circus performers and wrestlers which re-awakened Picasso's enthusiasm. However, rather than the lithe and sensitive creatures of the Blue and Rose periods, the circuses are now crowded with grotesquely distorted acrobats and comic players as the artist's imagination runs riot.
