Les pierres fines constituent dès les années 1930 une source inépuisable pour les créations joaillières, dotées de couleurs variées et chatoyantes, elles permettent la réalisation de quelques pièces spectaculaires qui enrichissent la palette de la maison Cartier. Traitées avec autant d’égard que les pierres précieuses avec lesquelles elles se mêlent volontiers, elles apporteront aux créations une grande liberté de ton. Le corail est une source d’inspiration chère à Cartier et les années 1920 lancent les accords du noir, de l’orange et du blanc des diamants, accords qui perdureront. Le noir et l’orange sont d’une élégance parfaite. Dès le début des années 1930, un bracelet orné du fameux motif panthère se compose chez Cartier de trois lignes de boules de corail côtelées, celle du centre serti de diamants sertis clos comme pour ce bracelet manchette. Nombre de fermoirs précieux, abstraits ou figuratifs viendront au fil des créations enrichirent les collections comme les fameuses têtes de chimères. As early as the 1930s, fine gemstones were an inexhaustible well for jewellery creations, embellished with varied and shimmering colors, and enabled the production of some of the most spectacular pieces in Cartier’s palette. Treated with as much respect as the precious stones with which they mix willingly, they bring a freedom and lightness to the creations. Coral is a source of inspiration dear to Cartier and the 1920s launched an enduring pairing of black, orange and the white of diamonds. The black and the orange epitomize a perfect elegance. By the early 1930s, a bracelet adorned with the now-famous panther motif is created at Cartier, composed of three rows of ribbed, coral balls, the center row set with close-set diamonds as with this cuff bracelet. Numerous precious clasps, both abstract and figurative, are conceived over time, enriching collections such as the famous heads of chimeras.
