Lot Essay

These fixtures (lots 68-70) were originally installed in the home of William F. Donovan at 418 Winthrop St., in Toledo, Ohio. Donovan worked at the New England Glass Works for many years and followed the company west where it eventually became the Libbey Glass Company. Serving as vice president and later chairman of the board at Libbey, Donovan clearly admired the work of his competitors, as he outfitted his home with chandeliers and other fixtures made by Tiffany Studios. The Border Peony chandelier, which once hung in the dining room of the Winthrop Street house, is an unusual variation with an irregular border.
