Lot Essay

According to Mr. A.S. Davidson, the recognized expert on the artist, the present work is likely one of a pair intended as sketches for a larger panorama. The second work is the next item in the artist's personal record book, no. 876, and retains the same title. Both works were entered into the record book in October 1837.
