Founded by Richemont and DaimlerChrysler in 1999, the Laureus World Sports Awards honours the very best sportsmen and women from all over the world. Using the power of sport to bring people together in the struggle against social injustice, the charitable Laureus Sport for Good Foundation was established. Bearing the spirit and motto of "sport has the power for social change", the foundation organises projects worldwide devoted to battle against poverty, homelessness, war, violence, discrimination, drug abuse, racism and Aids. Over 130,000 children and adolescents have benefited from the projects so far.
In 2006, IWC, one of the designated brands for Laureus World Sports Awards, released the Portuguese Chrono-Automatic Edition Laureus to honour the Foundation. It is available in a limited edition of 2,000 pieces per year and features an exclusive engraving on the case back inspired by a child's drawing, which is the winning entry in a painting competition organised by IWC for children involved in Laureus projects.
