The present watch is from the first series of the legendary Royal Oak series, introduced into the market in 1972. Available in 18K gold, stainless steel and gold and stainless steel and generally fitted with anthracite grey dials, examples fitted with a champagne dial, such as the present watch, are exceedingly rare. Its rarity is further enhanced by the very good overall condition.

From its introduction to the present day, the Royal Oak, epitome of a luxury sports wristwatch with its unique octagonal screwed porthole bezel continues to captivate watch collectors and aficionados with undiminished power. The celebrated model sired a dynasty of timepieces ranging from basic time and date watches to the "Royal Oak Grande Complication" with more than 600 parts and numerous functions.
